I love January.
All the moaning about the weather in the past two posts might suggest otherwise, but it really is true. January is the heart of winter - there's no escaping the cold, and nothing to do but to embrace the season.

The start of 2025 is a step into the second half of the decade, and I have two specific targets for this year.
The first is to aim for 100 rejections. It sounds a bit masochistic, but I came across the idea a few months ago and I love it. The theory goes that if you go for it enough times to hear "no, sorry", 100 times, then you're sure to hear "yes!" a couple of times.
The second goal is to spend around 30 minutes improving my drawing skills. I've had a lot of fun preparing monthly challenges for myself, and even though I'm not taking it too seriously and will certainly not do it every day (some projects are too all-consuming), it's still exciting to think about drawing for fun!
The challenge for was 30 minutes of figure drawing with the aim of improving my understanding of anatomy. Here's a few pages of 30 second, 1 minute, 2 minute and 5 minute sketches:
Nothing impressive, but I can't overstate how wonderful it was to just draw for the sake of drawing - something I rarely do these days!
We were blessed with a tonne of snow this month, and a tonne of fun to go with it. And on our yearly New Year's hike, a tradition we've kept since we got married, I felt very grateful - for the beauty of this place, for good friends, a loving family, and the ability to make illustration a career.
